Special Needs Notes

In the Animal Menu there is a link marked Special Needs Notes. This link activates a thought-bubble icon to be visible when a note has been added to alert users to its presence. 

The Special Needs Notes are designed to mark permanent conditions on an animal's record to ensure they get the care they need and also so the information doesn't get accidentally deleted. 

Some conditions that are suitable to record here would be conditions such as blindness, diabetes, epilepsy, deafness, stenotic myelopathy, and so on. 

A note category can identify the condition the animal has, and notes can be added on the ongoing care and maintenance for that animal. Unfortunately, this are does not have access to a template option. 

To Add a Note Category

1. From the Welcome/Search page click the Administration link in the left-hand menu
2. From the Administration Menu use the search option to locate Edit Drop Down Lists
3. Click the link to load Edit Drop Down Lists
4. In the menu at the top (the light section) search for Special Needs Notes Categories
5. Click the Edit link
6. This is a Quick Entry page: place your cursor into the text window, type the name for your category and simply strike the Enter key on your keyboard to add it to the list. 
7. The new option is now available. 

If you need to Edit an option, hover your mouse over the option you wish to change until a small icon shaped like a pencil appears on the left. Click on the pencil icon and this will activate the fields for that item. Make your changes and click the green tick on the right, or the red cross to discard changes. 

If you would like to deactivate a category, Edit the option using the pencil icon, untick the box in the Show column by clicking on it, and click the green tick to save your changes. 

To Add a Note to an Animal

1. From the Animal Details page, locate the Special Needs Notes in the Animal Menu
2. A pop-up will open (make sure your pop-up blocker is turned off)
3. Select an option from the Category option at the top
4. Click to place your cursor in the text canvas and free type or copy/paste information into this field
5. Click Update Notes to save. 

NOTE: only one note can be added per animal at this time. 

Reporting

558 Special Needs Reports will show all in care animals with Special Needs Notes added. Can be filtered by Special Needs Note Category and by Physical Location/Region. 

198 Outgoing Details List offers an option to display Special Needs on the search return.
