Adding Useful Links

Useful Links are links to pages or websites that your users may find handy, all stored in one easily accessible location in your Shelter Buddy menu. 

To create a Useful Link: 

1. From the Welcome/Search page, click the link Useful Links in the orange left-hand menu. 
2. The page will display any existing useful links. 
3. Click the button +Create Useful Link located at the top left of the table
   • Description: Enter the name of the link, or a description that will help your users identify it. This is a free text field, so you can make it anything it needs to be. 
   • Link: enter the link address into this field. You may wish to copy directly from your browser's URL window for this, as it won't be able to tell you if it has been entered incorrectly. 
4. You will return to the menu page once successfully added. 

To Use a Useful Link: 

1. From the Welcome/Search page, click the link Useful Links in the orange left-hand menu. 
2. The page will display any existing useful links. 
3. Click on the Link of the page you wish to visit - the page will open in a new tab. 

Edit a Useful Link: 

1. From the Welcome/Search page, click the link Useful Links in the orange left-hand menu. 
2. The page will display any existing useful links. 
3. Click on the Description to view the details of a Useful Link
   • Click the Edit button. 
     OR
4. OR click the Edit button at the end of the row. 
5. Make the changes required in either the Description or Link windows
6. Click +Save  to keep your changes or Cancel to return to the previous page. 

To Deactivate a Useful Link: 

Useful links cannot be deleted entirely, but they can be deactivated (i.e. hidden). 

1. From the Welcome/Search page, click the link Useful Links in the orange left-hand menu. 
2. The page will display any existing useful links.
3. From the landing page, click the Deactivate button at the end of the row
4. Click the Deactivate button once more to confirm.
5. The link will now be hidden. 

To Reactivate a Useful Link

1. From the Welcome/Search page, click the link Useful Links in the orange left-hand menu. 
2. The page will display any existing useful links.
3. Click the tick box Show Inactive Links to mark it
4. Wait for the page to refresh itself
5. The deactivated items will now display. You can: 
   • Reactivate by clicking the Activate button at the end of the row. 
   • Click Edit to make changes 
   • Click the Link to view the page
   • Click the Description to view the page settings. 
6. The page will automatically return to the default view with deactivated links hidden if you select any action, once that action is completed. 
7. If you do not need to make any changes, you can return to the default view by unticking the Show Inactive Links box - again, the page will refresh automatically.
