Product Update: Animal Hold Feature Enhancement

Currently, ShelterBuddy offers multiple ways of designating a Hold on an animal. Putting an animal on hold means that animal cannot be released back to an individual or another agency for a variety of reasons (e.g., adoption holds, protective custody, bite quarantine, etc.).

In order to further streamline the system, we will merge two nearly identical features: the Hold Interested Party function and the Put Animal on Hold function.

What is changing?

  1. The Hold Interested Party Personal Category will be removed from the Person Details page to simplify navigation for users. If your staff is used to initiating Animal Holds from a Person Record,  this will be the most noticeable change.
  2. In order for users to initiate an Animal Hold, they will navigate to the Animal Details page and click the Put Animal on Hold link within the Animal Menu - the same way the feature works now.
  3. From there, the Put Animal on Hold will function in the exact same way as it does now, as outlined in our Knowledge Base here

What happens to data in Hold Interested Party?

We will migrate all Hold Interested Party data (historical and current) into the Put Animal on Hold function. This will require no action on your part and will coincide with the release of the functionality change.

Additionally, we will update Report 221 Interested Party Report to pull data from the Put Animal on Hold function. This means you will be able to utilize the following reports for tracking Animal Holds:

  • Report 221 Interested Party Report
  • Report 728 Put Animal On Hold Report

  • Report 174 Holds by Region

When will this change occur?

As of March 1st, 2024, we are still 3+ months away from release. After ample time for client feedback on, we will send more communications with firm release dates.
