Virtual Shelter Overview

Follow

The Virtual Shelter is a map of your shelter that details the locations of buildings and kennels that can house animals. It will display, using coded colours, the occupancy of the kennel or enclosure and if any cleaning requests are pending for that kennel or enclosure. It can also show animals that are not yet assigned kennel numbers within a section.

It can be set to show a map for as many Physical Locations (Regions) as required but will default to the user's login.

Overview

In the orange menu on the left side of the screen, click on the Virtual Shelter link.

The Virtual Shelter will display:

In the top left, in the Options menu, you can change which site you wish to view (if more than one is available) by changing the option in the drop-down and clicking the Change link.

You can also view any animals not yet assigned to a kennel by clicking the View Animals with no Kennel link to see the details in a pop-up. If all animals have been allocated, the pop-up will notify you of this.

The initial view will display the occupancy of the location depicted. Areas that currently house animals will be indicated by colouring the kennel or enclosure in different colours to indicate the number of animals within the enclosure. Areas left white have no occupants currently.

The Key to determine how many animals each colour represents can be found in the top right of the screen, adjacent to the Options menu.

To see details of which animals are in an occupied kennel or enclosure, simply click on the kennel in question:

If there are any pets assigned to a Shelter Location but not to a kennel, a question mark icon  will display near that Shelter Location. Click on the icon to view a similar list as shown above detailing any animals not yet assigned a kennel.

The animal details are hyperlinked, so if you wish to see more information or change something on the animal's file, simply click on the animal in question and the Animal Details page will open in a new tab on your browser.

Any changes made on the Animal Details page will be visible on the Virtual Shelter once it is refreshed.

Important Notes on Updating your Virtual Shelter Wireframe

Although the Virtual Shelter only attracts a one-off fee (variable, depending on the size and complexity of your wireframe), ongoing changes to the wireframe may attract additional fees.

You are entitled to three (3) small changes to the drawing per year. Small revisions include updates to labels or small additions.

Large changes (remapping entirely, a substantial addition, or a substantial reworking of an existing wireframe) will now attract a $500 USD fee.

Small changes above the three free changes mentioned above will attract a $250 USD fee.

Revisions of new work are limited to 6 changes after the work is offered for approval. If the wireframe requires more than 6 revisions after that, additional fees will be incurred.

How to Display Cleaning Requests

The Virtual Shelter is linked to the Kennel Cleaning Request functions and will visually display information on open cleaning requests.

The Virtual Shelter defaults to showing occupancy, so you must first set it to show cleaning requests instead. To do this, locate the legends on the right-hand side of the screen and underneath you will see two radial buttons.

Click on the option Cleaning Requests and the Virtual Shelter will reset to show these instead.

* See Kennel Cleaning Prompts (General and Special) for details on how to set up and apply Kennel Cleaning Requests.

Once a cleaning prompt has been deployed and recorded against a kennel, it will display on the Virtual Shelter Map, coloured according to whether it is a routine or special cleaning request.

However, unlike occupancy, this version will display the colour regardless of whether there is a current occupant in that area or not. To find out whether there is an animal currently in that location, just click on the kennel or enclosure in question to see details of occupancy and cleaning request details.

The name of the Shelter Location and Kennel Number will be displayed at the top of the pop-up, followed by a number indicating how many animals are in the kennel in question.

Beneath that will be the details of any occupants (if present) and each active cleaning request for that kennel.

Kennels or enclosures with an active cleaning request and no occupant will display like this:

If the enclosure has an occupant, it will show the details of the animal via a hyperlink in a similar manner to the occupancy details:

Again, just click on the animal details to open the Animal Details page in a new tab.

Changes to animal locations or cleaning requests cannot be made directly via the Virtual Shelter; rather it is designed as a visual indicator of occupancy or outstanding cleaning requests.

Empty and Clean Legend

We also offer a third view of your Virtual Shelter - the "Empty and Clean" view.

This option is available to view via the radial buttons here:

When this is selected, occupied or kennels that are empty but have not yet been cleaned will appear in grey; while empty and clean kennels ready for a new occupant will appear as white.

Note: you can also save your preferred view so you don't have to keep selecting it every time you go into your Virtual Shelter. The site will save preferences based on your login, so each user can save their own preferred view!
